Books can be games too. See "Lone Wolf" series for one obvious example.
This is objectively not true. Text adventure games like Zork are an entire genre, and were a major part of early gaming back in the floppy disk era. They're essentially the bridge between pen and paper RPGs like D&D and more modern RPGs like Final Fantasy.

Lone Wolf had pictures anyways, but even if it didn't,it was still a game.
Modern day games come from three sources.
1) Board games in the vein of Go, Chess, and so on that the elites used to train on strategy.
2) Sports that relative plebians learned to develop their tactical edge.
3) Gambling games that simulated chance.
Actual games do not even require a standard narrative, as long as it has a ludonarrative. The point of games is to play them. Ones that don't offer play in one form or another are not games. Adventure games over time split off into IF, point and click, and visual novels mostly. Learn your history noob, before you spout off.
